Computational Science
& Engineering Program
Many MS and PhD students in structural engineering with an interest in
computational solid and structural mechanics elect to complete the College of Engineering CSE option. The CSE
program enables graduate students without an undergraduate
degree in computer science to gain knowledge and experience in
parallel programming, visualization, advanced numerical methods
and other related topics.
CSE students complete a small set of core courses within the CSE program -
these courses count towards the graduation requirements in Civil &
Environmental Engineering. Completion of the CSE option is noted on the
official transcript.
We recommend that structural engineering students first complete
CEE-490 (co-listed as CSE-491) before enrolling in the advanced CSE courses.
CEE-490 Computer Methods, introduces students
to the C++ language, design of object-oriented software, essential
data structures and procedures to build simulation codes in a Unix
environment.
Complete information about the CSE program including course descriptions
is located at www.cse.uiuc.edu.
Requirements for the MS and
PhD CSE option in Structures are located at
